Tajweed comes from word “Jawwada (جود “(means to beautify, Perfect. In Qur’an
“perfect each and every sound/word.
Tajweed is to recite the Qur’an nicely or recite Qur’an as per Makharij and Sifaat of
the letters, and rules of recitation. These rules occur on every page, in fact each and
every line. Therefore, it is important to learn Tajweed to recite Qur’an. We should
recite Qur’an the way Prophet Muhammad (SAW) recite it, for this purpose Tajweed
helps us to reading Qur’an like them (SAW). The Prophet (SAW) said:
“He who does not recite the Qur’an in a pleasant tone is not of us”
(Abu Dawud {RA})
Qur’an recites with mistakes due to the reasons. It might be that one has improper
learning like not recite Qur’an on routine basis or not reading Qur’an through
proper resources. But today it becomes too much easy because there are online
Tajweed classes on different sites.
Another reason of reciting Qur’an in wrong way is may be that the mother
tongue, ascent of every language is different. So, those who are non Arabs cannot
read Qur’an with proper pronunciation/tone because of the difference of their
mother tone.
Or another reason can be of unawareness. If someone unaware of Tajweed or no
one ever exposes it to them, having less knowledge of Tajweed can cause the
recitation of Qur’an not perfectly.
Rules:
There are total 350 words from all the lessons of Qur’an that occur in majority such
as 40,000 time in the holy book, which cover 50-70% of the Qur’an. Reading Qur’an
accurately will inspire a Muslim heart and make much closer to Allah. Pleasant tone
will not be enough if the recite has:
Problem in Makharij
Problem in Sifaat
Problem in other rules
Problem in Makharij:
Makharij is the basic pronunciation of the words. Makharij is “the place from where
the sound of a letter comes from”. Or the articulation point of the letter. There are
basically five Makharij, that are;
o Lips
o Nose
o Tongue
o The cavity above tongue
o And the throat.
Where we stop pronouncing the words that is location from where the
sound is coming out from.
Alif (ا (and Ain )ع )are different in pronouncing. If one does not pronounce
accurately it will change the whole meaning which change the understandings of the
verse. So, it is important to concentrate fully on the pronunciation of words to
understand and read it accurately according to the tajweed.
Problem in Sifaat:
Sifaat is the attributes in which Qur’an has to recite. There are some words in which
one has to concentrate more. Like louder the voice, Praises the volume so it can
recite accurately while some where lower the tone matters which makes it more
perfect ad accurate.
In some words heavy Lam is necessary, lower Lam will be considered as wrong.
Arabic way of pronunciation matters too much in Tajweed.
Problems in other Rules:
There are many of other rules in Qur’an which one has to keep in mind during the
recitation of Holy book. Few of other rules include:
o Madd
o Natural madd
o Echo sound
o Meem/noon sakinah
o Stopping sings
o Mouthful letter
o Tanween
o Echoing letter etc.
They are just few main rules of Tajweed which we have to care about during the
reading of Qur’an. Mostly rules are too much strict because not following those
rules can be misguide or mislead the person who is listening and also can consider
as sin because of changes in meaning of the word. Reciting the Qur’an slowly is too
much important because it is not an ordinary book a single mistake is even not
allowed
